“No Sperm Is Safe” was an interesting article, but you misrepresented Catholicism and I feel obligated to respond with this piece of advice: If you are willing to admit your ignorance on a subject, consider keeping mum.
From the Catholic’s point of view, life is sacred. However, this is not the primary reason that contraceptives are discouraged. In fact, our logic is almost perfectly aligned with your own: We strongly advise against promiscuity. To the contrary, we honor the sacrament of marriage until death parts us. Granted, there are no perfect families. Nevertheless, we as Catholic families meditate on peace, charity, and industriousness. I’m sure you would agree these are honourable concepts.
What made you think Catholics were so unreasonable I’ll never know. Why your editors aren’t more critical of our university newspaper is even more confounding.
