Yasinsac assumes position in CIS

The University of South Alabama's School of Computer and Information Sciences has significantly advanced within the past several years. With this advancement, USA is welcoming a new administrator to fill the position of dean of Computer and Information Sciences.
Dr. Alec Yasinsac assumed the position of Dr. David Feinstein on June 1. After serving more than 28 years at the University, Feinstein will return to full-time teaching and research.
Before coming to USA, Yasinsac was an associate professor of computer science at Florida State University. He began teaching at Florida State in 1999 after a 20-year career as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
"We are excited to have Dr. Yasinsac join USA's faculty as the new dean of the School of Computer and Information Sciences," said Dr. Pat C. Covey, senior vice president for academic affairs at USA. "He is an experienced educator with an impressive background in research and teaching."
Yasinsac's experience as a researcher and educator has been shown through his extensive work in several communities. His main research interests involve security protocol verification and he has published on a variety of topics, including cryptographic authentication, wireless security, intrusion detection, group encryption and digital forensics.
Yasinsac has written more than 42 journal articles, book chapters and technical reports. He also co-edited the book "Mobile and AD hoc Networks and Sensors Security.
Yasinsac earned his bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Appalachian State University. He earned his master of science degree in computer science from the Naval Postgraduate School and his doctorate in computer science from the University of Virginia.
USA President and founding dean of the School of Computer and Information Sciences Gordon Moulton said Yasinsac's experience and leadership abilities will be a great asset to the university. The continued growth of the program will continue to help USA excel to national recognition.
"Computers and information technology have never been more important to our economy and society," USA President Gordon Moulton said. "We are pleased to have a leader of Dr. Yasinsac's caliber as we continue to educate new generations of professionals for these crucial fields."
Yasinsac believes the school has a strong potential for continued advancement. "With this strong foundation and a growing economy in our community, the future is truly bright in the University of South Alabama School of Computing and Information Sciences."
