Hanks Leads Baseball to 7-2 Victory Against Tulane

South Alabama senior right-hander D.D. Hanks pitched his first career complete game, leading the Jag baseball team to a 7-2 victory over the Green Wave Wednesday night at Stanky Field.

Five Jags recorded multiple hits, including Clint Reynolds, Zach Grichor, Jake Overstreet, Brent Tanner, and Sean Laird.

The Jaguar defense also deserves high praise, turning three double plays, including a 6-4-3 to end the game.

“It was an all-around good win,” Hanks said. “I gave up a few runs early but I started to feel my pitches and the offense and defense came to play. I’m proud of our whole team.”

South Alabama baseball split a four-game series against Siena over the weekend, including an 8-0 shutout victory on Sunday to close the weekend.

Senior left hander Lance Baxter pitched the complete game shutout and did not allow a base hit until the fifth inning.

The pitching was headlined by senior Beth Pilgrim, who went the distance, picking up her second win in as many days.

The Jags now stand at 9-9 and return to action Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they face Auburn at Jaguar Field.

Lady Jags Tennis Squad Falls to Louisville

The South Alabama women’s tennis team dropped their match to Louisville 6-1 Saturday on the campus of Virginia Tech.
